It’s hardly an earth-shattering statement to say that PR is a powerful thing. But here we go anyway: PR is a powerful thing. As a brand there are a lot of things you can control: the quality of your product, the honesty of your messaging, the way you treat your customers and clients, etc. One thing that can never be fully controlled however, is the way the public sees and feels about your brand. It’s the kind of intangible thing that has too many variables to ever be completely reigned in. And yet, that’s not to say it can’t be influenced and steered.
Much of the time at Marketicity our role is less about leaping onto an out-of-control chariot and more about taking something that’s locally known or has largely existed in a more analog way and expanding it to a broader, often digital audience. Along with that, we get the opportunity to help shape the message and the feel of the brand as it increases in visibility.
One of our favorite examples of this has been our work with the NCGA (National Corn Growers Association). As an organization they have been around since the 50s, promoting and advocating the importance and innovation of corn growers across the country. For most of those years, as a way to highlight the production of so many of these growers, they have sponsored the National Corn Yield Contest. Marketicity has a long and proud relationship with NCGA which includes helping to expand the scope and visibility of this contest. With 46,000-plus corn growers in the country, it was a wide net to cast. Like most of what we do, we opted for a multifaceted approach. Initially we focused on advanced mailers, info pieces on the benefits of the program and the benefits of the NCGA in general, but as time has gone on we have also increased the digital presence of the contest.
Stories are important, and so alongside focusing on the overall benefits of the NCGA, we have also zeroed in on highlighting state and national winners of the contest, sharing their stories, their awards, and their photos. This has allowed us to not only promote the growers themselves, but has allowed us a more meaningful way to promote the commodity of corn and the various ways it can be used.
Over the years we have worked with the NCGA to build upon and broadcast their image of positivity, of innovation, and a celebration of the wealth of tradition and history within their organization.
